The 3Dflow Competition “MADI Throwback” together with MADI by IUAV University of Venice, now at its 6th edition, is officially concluded, and we cannot wait to announce the winners!
For this edition, we had a special guest that joined us! 3Dconnexion kindly provided the students with their SpaceMouse® devices for testing during the contest and offered one SpaceMouse® wireless as grand prize for the first place!

The contest was, as usual, addressed to all the MADI students who attended the Photogrammetry and 3D Modeling course with 3D artist and MADI Professor Gabriele Simonetta. Always a very welcomed theme during the previous years, we wanted to keep the memories as main focus and give the possibility for the students to live again their favourite moments through their CGI images, all while putting into practice the workflows using 3DF Zephyr and the SpaceMouse®!

Now, without further ado, let’s see the winners that brought back some of their “Blast from the Past” vibes ✨ – Final render on the left and clay render on the right!

Podium

1st Place: Martina Morelli

With her “La bottega di Geppetto” (trad. “Geppetto’s Shop”), Martina manages to successfully reconstruct a quite challenging item, with lots of micro-details, all through a very well done composition and a skillful usage of lighting that blinks an eye to all the references of the original story. For these reasons, Martina gets the 1st place and wins the grand prize of this challenge: 12 months of 3DF Zephyr license, and the SpaceMouse® wireless! Congratulations!!

2nd Place: Angelica Rizzo

Through “Awakening Memory”, Angelica perfectly explores the idea of memory through the symbolic “awakening” of the scanned mask, purchased during a beautiful trip to Bali, depicting Garuda, a powerful mythological figure in Hinduism and Buddhism. With an excellent composition and atmosphere, Angelica gets the 2nd place and wins 6 months of 3DF Zephyr license! Great work!

3rd Place: Edoardo Bidoggia

Edoardo’s image strongly connects with his favourite sport and passion since always, swimming. With an extremely photographic vibe and composition, plus the scanned chronometer well included in the various elements that form the image, Edoardo gets 3rd place and wins 3 months of 3DF of Zephyr license! Keep it up!

Obviously, we’re not done! We wanted to award two more participants with two special mentions, given to those that stood out in the 3D scanning process, mainly for being able to skillfully integrate the photogrammetric model into the composition.

Q: Will the 90 days license offer autorenew ?
A: No – this is not a subscription, but a special license that only lasts 90 days. It is identical to a full edition of 3DF Zephyr, it just will stop working 90 days after you purchase it. You will need to manually subscribe to the 30-days subscription plan or purchase the perpetual version, if you want to keep using 3DF Zephyr.

Q: Is the 3DF Zephyr Lite version offer limited in some way?
A: Not at all! This is a lifetime, full version, of 3DF Zephyr Lite, with included 12 months of updates. You’re just getting it with a heavy discount

Q: Is the 3DF Zephyr 90 days license version offer limited in some way?
A: All features are available. The only limitation is the time duration. This license will not work 90 days after purchase. All your project files are 100% compatible with the other 3DF Zephyr versions, of course.

Q: Are these licenses transferable/can I resell them?
A: No. Transfer and resale is – as usual – explicitly forbidden.

Q: Can I purchase the 90 days promotion now and start using it later?
A: No. The 90 days starts immediately upon purchase.

With his “Imperfetta – la bellezza dell’imperfezione” (trad. “Imperfect – the beauty of imperfection”), Luca manages to capture through a very well done composition the handmande authenticity of that tiny giraffe souvenir he bought in Marrakech some years ago. The small irregularities make the scanned object beautiful in its own way while evoking a fond memory. Luca gets the 1st place and wins the grand prize of this challenge: 12 months of 3DF Zephyr license! Congratulations!!

2nd Place: Katarina Odynoka

Through “Nostalgia“, Katarina perfectly conveys that melancholy feeling when you’re far away from home and you’re longing to stay with your beloved family and friends. With a skillful usage of composition and the scan of her teddy bear peluche that she bought for her mother during her studies abroad, Katarina gets the 2nd place and wins 6 months of 3DF Zephyr license! Great work!

3rd Place: Pietro Giacomelli

Pietro’s image is a real tribute to the vaporwave aesthetic with vivid colors, retrò effects that recall the old-fashioned 80’s videogames, and his scanned Nintendo console starting the Pokémon game. Thanks to all these elements, he calls forth an alternative reality, a sort of a digital past he never lived but always dreamed of. Pietro gets 3rd place and wins 3 months of 3DF of Zephyr license! Keep it up!
