    Automatic orientation using smartphone accelerometer

    Hey,

Create a feature which automatically orientates models by using the accelerometer data embedded in smart phone photographs.

We currently use a smart phones to capture high resolution models of rock climbing holds, see https://sketchfab.com/twin.climbs/models

Accurately orientating the holds is a challenge, as the cliff face often has a complex geometry with no clear frame of reference.

We've manually been orientating our models using accelerometer data. We use an external app "Levelmon" and manual post processing oreintation in 3DF Zephyr.

If your software could automatically orientate models using the data embedded in photographs that would hugely useful in streamlining our process.

I hope you think this is a useful idea too!

Until the feature is implemented, one thing you might do is to drop a plumb line of some sort and include it in enough shots to get it to orient correctly in Zephyr. You could then use that to choose your two points to orient the up vector (one of the tools in the toolbar in case you haven't noticed it).

It would be easy to remove the plumb line when you clean up the model.
