Archaeology: How to export profile / stratigraphy

    Hi everyone,

I'm Peter and I'm working in archaeology. Is there any possibility to export a georeferenced 3D model? We need to be able to extract or view profiles and stratigraphy of our excavations. So we can create a 3D model and use this as a base for drawing the different layers in the soil. Like a orthophoto, but not ortho most important thing is, that it is still georeferenced so the
absolute altitude does not change. Picture below is just an example from the internet. We're working with ArcGIS wich supports 3D.

    Welcome!

Yes, as long as the workspace is georeferenced, the models will also be. Please note that a georeferenced 3D models uses double precision - not all 3D software out there support that (I personally am not familiar with arcgis, but just make sure they do), so if you see your model "blocky" outside of zephyr it's because such third party software can't handle georeferenced models.

Exif data in the images will automatically add georeferencing, though of course you have the options (in the full version) to use GCPs and to convert to different reference systems as well.

Hi Andrea, thank you for your quick answer. We are a cusomer with full licence. My workspace is georeferenced but exporting in OBJ or Gltf does not work, which file format would you recommend?

The format shouldn't be an issue at all. Are you 100% sure the project has been georeferenced? If so, then the exported model will be, *unless* you have explicitly checked the "use local coordinate" option. Make sure whatever target software you're using is capable of opening georeferenced models, as that's not always the case and is often the most common issue.

If you're still unable/unsure, feel free to email us your project (or a subset) at support@3dflow.net ( zep, _files directory, photos) and we'll be happy to take a look!
